A Curated Picnic Experience on Gozo Island

I can only hope to find more experiences like this as I continue traveling the world. “Gozo Picnic” was one of my favorite experiences we’ve had while traveling. I connected with a local woman, named Ana, who curated the most beautiful evening for us on Gozo Island.

I am well aware that you can curate your own picnic in most places you are visiting in the world. It’s easy to grab some meat & cheese and a blanket or a towel to throw down and enjoy a snack together. In fact, it is one of our favorite things to do when we’re traveling. However, being far from home and in a different country, I would never be able to put together something like this. This wasn’t just a simple picnic, it was a whole experience.

I started corresponding with Ana from “Gozo Picnic” a few months prior to our trip. I found her on Trip Advisor and followed her on instagram. She gave me a few great suggestions for locations for the picnic and some menu options. We decided to do our picnic at the salt flats in Gozo because we’d never seen anything like it, and chose a traditional dinner because we wanted to experience the cuisine of Gozo. The salt flats are right by the sea and a perfect spot for sunset. We pulled up at the designated time and walked up to our picnic, which was an enchanting sight to see. There was a stunning set up with cushion seats for each person on top of a large blanket. The picnic was equipped with beautiful string fairy lights, lanterns, and a speaker to play our own music. Ana also had provided bug spray, water, wine, and even a mosquito repellant in case we needed it. She had really thought of everything!

The picnic dinner was delicious and mostly homemade. It started with antipasto of local meat & cheeses, two different traditional dips, and locally made bread. The main course was orecchiette pasta with beef ragu, grilled Maltese sausage and homemade tomato sauce. For desert we had homemade tiramisu with hints of coffee and fresh cream. Ana’s cooking was phenomenal and the meal was more than enough for the four of us that night. We also shared two bottles of wine alongside dinner.

After we ate, we had plenty of time to explore the area, take pictures, and sip wine as the sun was setting. It was so gorgeous we kept just stopping to look around and take it all in. As the night wore on, all of the lights she had set up around the picnic started to glow and we enjoyed an absolutely picture-perfect sunset. This was an experience we will never forget, and would highly encourage anyone to reach out to Ana if you’re on Gozo Island.

I found her on instagram under the handle: @gozopicnic.

The cost of our picnic, which was premium, for 4 people was $230 Euro. We found the experience to be well worth the cost.
