We have stayed in some truly incredible airbnb’s throughout our years of travel. I just recently did a post about airbnb vs hotel stays, and while I go back and forth all of the time, these are places where an airbnb just can’t be beat. They add to the experience of the place and are something you just can’t get in a hotel.

Stay in a fishing village called Klima in Milos, Greece
We stayed in this airbnb in Klima, a fisherman’s village on the island of Milos. This one is a bit like going back in time, you’re not going to find modern comforts here. But what you are going to find is peace and quiet, the ocean literally coming to your front door at certain times of the day, a couple of ducks hanging out, some unreal views, and a true Greek island experience. We stayed here and rode ATV’s all over Milos for a few days and I constantly dream about going back. We stayed here in 2015, but the listing looks just as it was when we visited, just a bit more expensive now as Milos doesn’t seem to be the hidden gem it once was.

A Well Located Home with a stunning rooftop in Cartagena, Colombia
It took me a while to find a place in Cartagena that I thought would work for 3 couples. This place ended up being perfect. The highlights were that it was inside the old town walls, had an amazing rooftop terrace which we spent so much time on, and best of all, it came with a cleaner who who cooked breakfast each day! They came in the morning everyday and made us the MOST delicious breakfast, and it was even included in our stay. The home was stunning, the bedrooms had AC, and we could walk to anything and everything in Cartagena that we wanted to do. If you’re traveling with another couple or a small group, I would highly recommend this airbnb.
Staying on a houseboat in Amsterdam, Netherlands
One of the coolest experiences we’ve done was staying on a houseboat in Amsterdam. I had wanted to do this for a while, but was having a hard time finding the perfect fit. Many of the coolest houseboats seemed to be a bit far from the main areas of Amsterdam, and we wanted to be in the thick of things. I eventually found what was the perfect spot for us. It was SO cozy to stay here, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and it was so nice to sit out on our little bench on the canal and watch the world go by. We were visited by swans and had such incredible views. We walked to the “Food Hallen” to get dinner to bring home and eat in, just enjoying the experience of being on the canal. It was so nice to wake up and have coffee in bed with a canal view. I would highly recommend giving this a shot if you’re in Amsterdam.

An apartment with a water door on the canal in Venice, Italy
Have you ever heard of a “Porta de Aqua”, or a water-door? At this place in Venice you have a sliding glass door that opens right onto the canal. It’s not a huge or heavily trafficked area so it is quite perfect. We absolutely loved the experience of hanging out here with a box of charcuterie and some wine we picked up from the locals around the area while watching for gondolas, boats, and kayaks to go by. The neighborhood is incredible and has such a fun and local feel. The house is so comfortable and nicely updated and the ‘door’ just can’t be beat. Its a Venice bucket list experience in my opinion!

An A-frame hidden in a champagne speakeasy in Tallinn, Estonia
We stayed in the most adorable tiny home in Tallin. Not only is this the most adorable and charming place to stay, but the garden turns into a champagne lounge! We had such a nice time sipping some bubbles here in the beautiful garden. The places was walkable to everything we’d want to do and see in Tallin, and it was so cozy and cute. It really added to our experience in Tallin.

Naxos, Greece
This one is all about LOCATION. The apartment was modern, beautiful, and extremely well maintained. The AC worked great and it had everything we could have needed. But the reason I’ve added it to this list is where it is, located right on the beach with a terrace overlooking the Temple of Apollo. Everyone flocks here to watch sunset at then Temple, and this apartment has an incredibly PERFECT view of all of it, right from your own terrace. We enjoyed hanging out each night and sipping wine while watching the sunset. It was also a stunning place to wake up with the ocean right outside your door. It was walkable to all that we’d wanted to do in the old town of Naxos and we really enjoyed our stay here immensely.

Corniglia, Italy
I hesitate to even post this place because I love it so much and I always want it to be available for me! But we really loved it and C0rniglia is such a charming place that many people overlook due to the stairs. This place is small and simple, but the view is a dream. We loved waking up to look over the town of Corniglia, and we loved being able to get breakfast from the bakery in town since the same owners own the airbnb! It was such a special treat. Corniglia has a lot to offer and this place is just wonderful.

Living the Italian Dream in Camogli, Italy
This airbnb is our most recent stay and one of my ABSOLUTE favorites. The view was BEYOND a dream, the place was so cozy and felt so local and special. I must note that this spot doesn’t have wifi, and does not have air conditioning, but we didn’t miss either. We loved feeling like part of the town, cooking local pasta in our kitchen, waking up and going to sleep over the beautiful port, and being within walking distance of everything. The bed was so comfortable, the ocean sounds were so calming, and we had some amazing nights sleep here. Camogli is a magical place and I have a blog post on the full experience coming soon!
