Visiting the Vineyards is an excellent day trip from Barcelona that was super smooth using a tour guide. I read a bit about how you could do this on your own, but with a group of 6 girls that just wanted to have a stress free day, this tour was it.
Practical Information
Time: We were picked up at the meeting point for this tour at 8:45 am and we were dropped off again around 3pm.
Cost: The tour cost about $120 usd per person
Inclusions: transportation to and from, wine tasting and vineyard tour at “Can Bas”, cava tasting and cellar tour at “Pere Ventura”
Things to Note: There are snacks served with the tastings on this tour but I highly recommend you eat a full breakfast prior to the tour OR bring a snack of your own. I didn’t honestly feel that the food was sufficient enough to sustain us for all of that time while drinking.
About the Tour
We were picked up by van at 9 am and driven about 45 minutes out into the valley. Our first stop was “Can Bas” and it was so stunning. When we arrived we were given an open jeep tour of the vineyards and surrounding area. It was such incredible scenery even in the off season, and we enjoyed the ride around!
Upon returning from the jeep ride we got to do the tasting. We were able to try both red and white wines and taste some snacks that paired well with them. We genuinely enjoyed all of the wines that we tried and found the snack parings to be perfect.
Following this tour we were driven about 10 minutes in our van to the next stop where we got to learn about cava, which is sparkling wine from Spain. We learned throughout our tours that cava and champagne are made the same way and touring the cava cellars reminded me of my previous visit to the champagne region of France. The cava tasting was at “Pere Ventura” which was run by the same family that runs “Can Bas”. We got a nice tour of the cellars and learned a lot about the production of cava. Following the tour we were able to have another full tasting of different types of cavas that they produce. We enjoyed all of the cava we tasted here and we even grabbed two bottles of the cava rose to bring with us for the afternoon.
This was a delightful way to spend a half day outside the hustle of Barcelona. The wine and cava were excellent, the tour was well run and the staff at both places were so kind and knowledgeable.
