15 things to do in Montmartre, Paris

Montmartre is arguably the most charming neighborhood in Paris. It is in the 18th arrondissement and is up on a hill overlooking the city. In Montmartre you will find bohemian vibes, artists at work, secret vineyards, cobblestone streets, vine covered buildings, charming squares, a landmark church, and so much more. Here is a list of things to do in Montmartre Paris.

In my opinion this church and area is about as iconic as the Eiffel Tower. I love
hanging out up here. Seeing the inside of the church is beautiful and you should absolutely take the time to peek in. You can also buy tickets to go up in the tower of the church and get incredible views of Paris. The steps are one of the most lively places to hang out at almost any time of day. The grounds, lawn, and stairs leading up to the Sacre Couer are full of people having picnics, taking photos, enjoying the scene, etc. It’s a very popular sunset spot and it SHOULD be a more popular sunrise spot! I have enjoyed sunrise here numerous times in Paris and it is stunning!

This place is like the heartbeat of Montmartre. This square is so vibrant and lively. The artists work all around the square creating art, drawing portraits, doing cartoons, etc. You can have something made for you, or buy something that has already been created. This is my favorite place in Paris to sip a spritz and watch the scene. You can snack or eat here too, but it will come with a price tag! This place is always packed full of tourists but theres just something I absolutely love about it. We can almost always find a table facing the square to have a drink and watch the world go by.

When searching images of Paris and Montmartre, the image of this iconic restaurant often comes up. It is the most charming pink house with green shutters and it is so picturesque you can’t help but stop and stare at it. I also highly recommend going inside the Maison Rose! They have a delightful 3 course brunch and a fantastic drink selection! It is neat to be inside and watch all the tourists outside taking photos. You must make a reservation to eat here

One of my favorite places we’ve eaten in Paris. You need to make a reservation here and the area is a bit off the beaten path, which is what makes this spot excellent. You pay a fixed rate and you eat whatever they are serving that day. It was about 65 euros last time we went and was about 5-6 courses and all were delightful! If you love amazing food and are open to an adventure this is your spot! Keep in mind, if you’re a picky eater this is probably not going to be the place for you.

The wall of love is such a beautiful sight in Paris. “I Love You” is written on blue tiles in over 300 languages. The park here has just been revamped and looks so nice. There is generally a crowd here but from what we’ve seen, most people are quite respectful of taking a turn for photos and moving out of the way. This is another excellent spot to relax and people watch. We have gone here with a bottle of wine to just sit and sip and watch people take all the lovey dovey photos and it’s so happy!

If you are a cheese lover, this is your spot. France and cheese go hand in hand right? This is a fromagerie and restaurant and is an absolutely excellent spot in Paris! We went for cheese tasting and wine and loved everything about it. The food also looked amazing and I’d love to go back and eat one day! We asked our waiter what to order and he made us a fantastic cheese board for tasting, we couldn’t have been more pleased with the selection. I love when places like this don’t feel intimidating and you feel like you can learn about the cheese and try it without any concerns.

The rooftop bar of the Terrass hotel is an awesome scene! You can’t make reservations here, but we didn’t have to queue for long for a spot. I was worried that we wouldn’t have a great view, but honestly anywhere you sit has a stunning view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower in the distance. As with any rooftop, the drinks may be a little prcier, but I always find it to be worth it for the experience! This hotel itself is also incredibly beautiful and although out of my personal budget, I hope to stay here someday.

This restaurant is so quirky and definitely is not for everyone, but it is so much FUN! They only serve fondue, you can choose to have meat or just bread. They serve white and red wine in baby bottles. I have read various rumors about the reason for the baby bottles, but regardless it’s just such a fun and funny experience. The place is small and you’re seated at two long tables so you may have to climb over or under to get to your seat. You are dining closely with the people beside you! It is such a lively, interesting, and fun dinner if you’re up for an adventure.

This is a charming and small museum that you don’t need to take too much time to see. You can see a bit of what the artist life in Montmartre may have looked like, you can sit in the beautiful courtyard cafe which feels like a little oasis, you can take a sneak peak over into the Montmartre vineyard, and overall just learn a bit more about the neighborhood and area while seeing some beautiful works of art.

People will tell you that there is nowhere good to eat in Montmartre but I disagree. We love this little spot with chalkboard menus and delicious steaks. The menu is simple (in a good way) and they are happy to explain it to you in English if needed. The staff are so kind, the food & wine are excellent, and the spot is quite charming. I would recommend a reservation as this spot is quite small.

It might seem weird to have a cemetery on this list, but this cemetery is actually stunning and you can walk through as if walking through a park. Truly, it is a beautiful scene to see and worth a walk through if you have some time and interest.

This is a traditional French restaurant that is meat focused! You can order all different types of meat by weight and they are cooked SO well! This is definitely not your spot if you’re veggie or vegan. But if you love meat and some other French basics you will love this spot!

This is another spot you may always see when looking at iconic Paris photos. It is a classic place to have a drink and people watch as the floods of visitors swarm around Montmartre.

There are some spots in Montmartre where you can catch views of the Eiffel Tower. You can make it fun and go on a little hunt around the streets. Being high up on the hill you can find some spots that will surprise you!

This place has thus far eluded me. I want to visit and taste the wine so badly! There are a few options to get into this vineyard and taste and they are on special days and special times and the opportunity just hasn’t yet met up with my schedule. It is a stunning vineyard in the center of Montmartre and you can take a peek at it through he gates and also from the Montmartre museum. Someday I will get there! If you make it first… LET ME KNOW!
