how to spend a sunday in paris: a unique Art Filled itinerary

One of the best things about revisiting places, is that you get to try new things each time. We have explored Paris so many times now, that we’re really able to get a little more off the beaten path. We have been loving exploring areas further from the center, trying new experiences, and getting a new feel for a city we already love. This post is going to detail a full day itinerary for a different way to enjoy Paris than you may be used to!

Why Sunday in Paris?

In many European cities and towns Sundays can be very different from other days. Unlike in the US where everything remains open seemingly all the time. A Sunday in Paris can be a time that is reserved for family. Many business and shops may be closed or have limited hours on a Sunday in Paris. This itinerary will cover things that I have done and know are available on a lovely Sunday in Paris.

Start with a stroll

Depending on what area of Paris you’re staying in, you should never waste any time in this lovely city. Wake up and go for a little stroll. Some of my favorite areas to walk in the morning include the area along the Seine, through Montmartre before it gets crowded, around the Canal St Martin area, and around the area of the Eiffel Tower! Paris is so lovely as it is waking up and before a lot of the crowds do. You have an even better chance of having some of these spaces to yourself on a Sunday in Paris! Things are generally slower and people wake up a bit later.

Where should you stay?

I actually have a full guide to where to stay in Paris and it is FREE. You can find it here —> Where to Stay in Paris by Arrondissement

Walk or take a ride to La Bellevilloise for Jazz Brunch

This is such a delightful experience and I am so glad that we discovered this spot in the 20th arrondissement. You absolutely should make reservations before attending brunch here. There are two services, one at 11:30 and one at 14:00, they last 2 hours. You pay 32 euro and there is a fantastic buffet! This is truly a delight for a Sunday in Paris where you want to have a relaxed brunch.

The food was quite impressive and I couldn’t believe how much variety there was in the buffet. There were all kinds of brunch salads, cheese, meats, vegetables, eggs, lox, bacon, etc. This might sound silly, but there is a pastry tree! There are actually trees growing through the building here and one fo them has a table built around it that is covered in treats! You could get croissants, pain au chocolate, chocolate mousse, brownies, etc. You could get coffee, tea, juice, or alcohol.

Honestly, we went to the earlier session and it was really wholesome. We didn’t see a lot of people drinking alcohol at all. There were quite a number of young families there, and many groups of friends.

There is live jazz music throughout the meal and you can stay, eat, enjoy, and relax for the entire time slot if you want. There is not a bad seat in the place and everyone has a lovely view of the musicians. It was full, but not overcrowded. Overall, this is one of my favorite things we’ve experienced on a Sunday in Paris.

Street Art Tour

It works out perfectly that this neighborhood is also very well known for it’s street art. We were so excited to sign up for Street Art Tour with Street Art Tours Paris. Honestly, this is one of my favorite walking tours we’ve ever done anywhere. We love street art, so this was already our vibe. Our tour guide was a street artist himself, he was even able to show us some of his own work throughout the neighborhood.

We saw so many beautiful murals and art pieces. We also got to learn SO much about all the different artists in Paris, how they make their art, when and where they are able to do it, and the meaning behind so many different and lovely pieces! It was so fun to walk around Paris after this tour and notice so much more street art than we had before. It felt like a scavenger hunt noticing everything as we wandered around! This tour runs most days but it worked out well to go right after the brunch since it was a Sunday in Paris.

You can book the tour we did by clicking here.

Our tour wrapped up around this lovely park that I had never heard of prior to this tour, Parc De Belleville. As we walked up to the park our guide told us “were coming up to the wow spot” and he was so right! It had beautiful street art and an incredible view over Paris. Though you are quite far, you can see all the way to the Eiffel Tower from here. It was such a lovely surprise to end the tour!

After The Tour Head back into the center and check out 59 Rivoli

This place is such a pleasant surprise! It is easy to walk through, FREE, and I think we just might make it a habit to keep returning since the artists are rotating. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1-8 so this will fit into your Sunday in Paris itinerary but also could be done on another day if you’d rather, or if you’ve had enough art for today.

This is an art gallery over a large number of floors, that is FULL of different artists workshops/galleries. Many artists are actively working in their spaces as you’re walking through. There are so many incredible things to see inside this place and EVERY inch of the interior is covered in art. The staircase itself is a masterpiece covered in art and murals etc. Every room and space is so full of life and has something amazing going on. There were so many different types of art throughout and the entire space was so vibrant! We truly were in love with this place, walking through was fantastic.

You could purchase art here if you wanted, but we never felt pressured walking through any of the spaces to buy anything. The artists in this space do rotate, so it is a place you could always come back to. Honestly, even if they didn’t rotate I would still go back, it is such an impressive site.

Time for Dinner

The Paris restaurant scene is interesting, in that not all places are open every evening. In fact, some of the best places we’ve ever eaten in Paris are only open Monday-Friday. You can absolutely find some winners on Sunday in Paris. For this itinerary I’m going to give you a little choose your own adventure!

If you’re a meat lover: You could have dinner at Sacre Fleur which is an amazing steak spot. You can order your meats by the kilo and they are served on a hot stone. They have traditional French sides and starters, but meat is the main dish here! We found this place to be absolutely delicious and we left very full!

If you’d like to go a bit more touristy try : Pink Mama Paris this spot is on a lot of tourist lists and is famous for its stunning interior decor. The food is also truly great though, they are known for their truffle pasta among other things. We found this place to be worth the hype it gets and you can make reservations here. Pink Mama is also part of a restaurant group and I think any of their spots would be worth checking out.

If you want to try something quirky and different go for : Refuge de Fondue. This is such a fun spot, they only serve fondue here, and they serve wine in baby bottles. The space is super small and crowded (in the best way) it’s very communal. Though if you don’t want to climb over or under a table to get to your seat and sit beside strangers this isn’t your place. If you’re into a super fun, friendly, and silly evening, this place is so much fun!

Of course the places to eat in Paris list is seemingly endless and you will be able to find something to eat anywhere.

I also have another post with a list of places we love —–> 10 Places You Should Eat in Paris

If you’re not giving up on street art yet

If you’d still love to see some more street art, take a walk through the Tunnel des Tuileries. It is a pedestrian tunnel that people run, walk, and bike through. It is basically an open air graffiti and street art showcase and it is really neat to stroll through!

See the tower sparkle

When you finish walking through the tunnel you can head to the Eiffel Tower to catch one of the final sparkles of the night. Remember it sparkles every night on the top of the hour for 5 minutes from sundown to midnight! This can be done on a Sunday in Paris, but I believe in doing it every day!

Endless Options

There are literally endless amounts of things you can do on Sunday in Paris. I could never list them all and they are all incredible. Can you tell it’s my favorite city? I will continue to post about this lovely city for ever and ever. If you want my “mega list” of all things Paris, feel free to send me an email at planformedani@gmail.com and I’ll send it to you completely free!

I hope you find this to be a fun and unique itinerary for a nice Sunday in Paris!
